Banned Helan to miss FA Cup tie

Jeremy Helan’s one-match ban means he will miss the FA Cup third round tie with MK Dons on Saturday.

Helan was booked twice at Huddersfield last Saturday but was not sent off as referee Russell mistakenly noted Michail Antonio’s name for Helan’s first booking, meaning that when the young defender had his name taken for a second bookable offence, he stayed on the pitch.

When Wednesday appealed against the Antonio caution on the grounds of mistaken identity, the FA disciplinary commission upheld that appeal, transferred the card to Helan and gave him a one-game ban.

Meanwhile, Stoke City are to allow loanee striker Mamady Sidibe to play for Wednesday in the MK Dons tie.
