Derby defeat for disappointing Owls

Wednesday slumped to a second successive Championship loss in a 2-0 defeat to Yorkshire rivals Leeds at Hillsborough.

Fernando Forestieri missed a good early chance when he shot wide in a one-on-one with keeper Rob Green and saw another effort blocked on the line by Liam Cooper. Then, just before the break, Almen Abdi’s free kick hit the top of the bar.

However, they were rare openings as Wednesday again struggled to find the pace, energy and cutting edge that brought us success – and goals – last season

Leeds had looked livelier as the first half progressed and took the lead on 62 minutes when they broke from halfway in a move which ended with Marcus Antonsson heading home from close range.

We then enjoyed our best spell of the game but when the clearest chance fell to Gary Hooper he shot too close to Green after being set up by Steven Fletcher. The latter also fired wide when he might have done better and Leeds sealed the points five minutes from time, Chris Wood turning home a low left-wing cross from close range.
