Coke gets hour’s runout after injury lay-off

Giles Coke took the next step in his recovery with an hour’s runout for the under-21s against Huddersfield.

Coke suffered a hamstring injury in the pre-Christmas home defeat to Bournemouth and has had a month on the sidelines before the return to action yesterday.

Kamil Zayatte also stepped out after injury while Paul Corry and Rhys McCabe played in a game which saw the Owls lose 4-1 to the league leaders and had development squad coach, Lee Bullen, fuming: “It was not good enough. I’m looking at it mainly from the aspect of the under-21 lads. I think they all let themselves down today. They have been well beaten.”

One absentee was Lewis Buxton who was originally pencilled in for a return after his knee and groin injuries but Wednesday have decided to delay any comeback to ensure he is in the right shape to return.

Martin Taylor is expected to play for the under-21s at Barnsley next Monday after an achilles problem.
