Carvalhal could make changes for Madejski clash

Carlos Carvalhal will be tempted to make changes at Reading on Saturday after our poor midweek display at Ipswich.

Atdhe Nuhiu’s last-minute header salvaged a point that we hardly deserved at Portman Road and Carvalhal was clearly unhappy with the performance, despite a draw which extended our unbeaten run to five games.

As he prepared for the trip to the Madejski Stadium, the head coach said: “We made some mistakes the other night which we usually don’t make. It was not just one player. It was more than one player. We must correct these mistakes on Saturday.

“We must play better and be more concentrated. We can’t make these mistakes. If you make these kind of mistakes in the competition, you have a big problem.”

Wednesday have had just four efforts on target in the last three matches but they resulted in four goals – two apiece at Villa and Ipswich.

Kieran Lee and Stephen Fletcher could both be back in the starting line-up after coming on as second-half substitutes on Wednesday evening, while Carvalhal may well consider a change or two in defence after a disorganised performance from the back four at Ipswich.

With just six wins from our first 18 games and any chance of an automatic promotion place already looking out of reach, Carvalhal will be desperate to see Wednesday get back to winning ways before the gap to the play-off places gets any wider.
