Carlos eyes ‘four or five new signings’

Carlos Carvalhal says he hopes to bring in “four or five new players” to strengthen the Wednesday squad for next season.

Speaking the day after agreeing an extension to his S6 contract, the head coach said he believes this is the type of bolstering the squad requires to make an even stronger push for promotion under his guidance.

Having twice missed out on a Premier League return at the play-off stage under Carvalhal, he added that it is important for the team to hit the season running and with a full squad in pre-season. This follows slow starts and late acquisitions in his first two seasons, quickly damaging hopes of automatic promotion.

When asked about his decision to stay at S6, the head coach said: “What moved me is the feelings. It’s something I appreciate a lot.”

He said there were three strands to this – his excellent relationship with the chairman, the backing of his players wanting him to remain at Hillsborough after the end of the season … and the “unbelievable support” and patience of the fans.
