Bruce: Best 45 minutes since I’ve been here

Steve Bruce was full of praise for his side and highlighted the contribution of loanee pair Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons on their full Wednesday debuts in the 3-1 win over Swansea.

The Owls boss said Lazaar “had a wonderful debut” and added: “The effort was there for everybody to see – some of them hadn’t played for a long time. Lazaar, for example and Aarons hadn’t played for months, so it was good to see them enjoy their debuts.

“We were very worthy winners all things said. That first half was the best we have played by far in the short time I’ve been here.”

Reflecting further on the overall performance, Bruce said: “We had a game plan to press them high, we stuck to it and got our rewards in that first half.

“It’s fair to say we ran out of juice a little bit and I knew the second half was going to be a bit of a struggle because of what we put in earlier.

“We’ve had a few problems with sickness, injuries and suspension but I’m delighted with the way we went about it and pleased with the result.”
