Bennett says farewell as Jones weighs up new contracts

Julian Bennett is the first out-of-contract player to be released from Hillsborough as Dave Jones looks towards next season.

Defender Bennett  was a Gary Megson signing and rarely figured in the first team under Jones, failing to make any appearances last season.

We now wait to see what Jones decides to do over first team squad players who also are out of contract – Lewis Buxton, Jermaine Johnson, Giles Coke, David Prutton, Miguel Llera, Jose Semedo and Stephen Bywater – along with Nicky Weaver and Alan Davies.

Meanwhile, academy defender Hayden White, who rejected a first professonal contract at Hillsborough, has signed for Championship rivals Bolton.
