Wednesday’s David Bates was an unused substitute in Scotland’s 2-1 Euro 2020 qualifier defeat to Russia on Friday night.
The Scots took an early lead through John McGinn but Russia hit back to take all three points at Hampden Park, and the defeat sees Scotland six points behind the visitors, who sit in the second qualifying position in their group.
Steve Clarke’s squad – including defender Bates – now welcome group leaders Belgium to Hampden on Monday evening, Roberto Martinez’s side boasting a 100 per cent record after five matches.
