Owls pair Barry Bannan and Steven Fletcher suffered World Cup agony as Scotland were edged out of the play-offs for a place in Russia on goal difference.
Bannan played the full game while Fletcher came on with 10 minutes left as the Scots, who needed to win to get in the play-offs, trailed 2-1 in Slovenia.
They managed a late equaliser but couldn’t find a winner and it is Slovakia, 3-0 winners over Malta, who take the play-off place from Scotland on goal difference.
