Windass on mark but opening friendly ends in defeat

Wednesday’s opening pre-season friendly ended in a 3-1 defeat to Celtic at our Wales training camp this afternoon.

We took the lead with a well-worked goal on just three minutes, Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer combining well and Josh Windass sweeping the ball home with a first-time effort from inside the box.

It was a promising start against a largely youthful Celtic side before ex-Owl Liam Shaw thought he should have had a penalty on 18 minutes when he went down under a challenge from Windass, as the Scottish side grew into the game.

The behind-closed-doors match consisted of three 30-minute periods and Celtic were back on level terms just after the first break, Albian Ajeti beating Joe Wildsmith at his near post.

Wednesday made wholesale changes halfway through the second period, with only Andre Green remaining from the starting line-up, and Celtic took the lead after 56 minutes when Owen Moffatt fired home from the edge of the box.

We hillsrarely troubled the opposition after that decent opening and Celtic wrapped up the win in the final minute, Odsonne Edourad powering into the penalty area and shooting across Cameron Dawson into the far corner of the net.
