Westwood expected to resume training

Keiren Westwood is expected to train with the Republic of Ireland squad on Tuesday after suffering a knee injury for the Owls at Burton on Saturday.

Westwood was injured in a first-half clash with the home side’s Marvin Sordell but is likely to resume training with Martin O’Neill’s squad as they prepare for a World Cup qualifier double header – in Georgia on Saturday and then at home to fellow group leaders Serbia next Tuesday.

It’s not so good news for Steven Fletcher as his ongoing knee problem has forced him to withdraw from the Scotland squad preparing for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Malta. Barry Bannan is very much a part of the build-up and Scotland boss, Gordon Strachan, was in the stands at Burton on Saturday to see the in-form midfielder turn in another good performance.
