With the Owls turning in a shocking first-half display and trailing 2-0, Jones told his troops a few home truths at half-time and, after seeing the side rally to win 4-2, the boss said: “I had one or two words with them at half-time. We just thought we’d turn up, play some nice football and that would see us through.
“Well, their first challenge showed that wouldn’t be the case. It was the worst 45 minutes in my time here.”
Jones praised the team for listening to him at half-time and then transforming the tie in the second half. However, he added a few words of warning ahead of the league opener at Derby on Saturday, saying: “In the league we’re going into, you won’t come back from two-down in many games.”
