Wednesday make their point at Birmingham

Birmingham City

We got a point and moved a further place away from the relegation zone …  but that’s about the best that can be said for Tuesday evening’s uninspiring goalless draw at Birmingham.

Both sides struggled to test either keeper, with Wednesday improving as the game wore on, showing more punch and threat after the break but seemingly lacking the confidence or belief to fully capitalise against a Birmingham side still shell-shocked from Saturday’s 4-0 home reverse to Watford.

Miguel Llera forced a fine early save out of Jack Butland while Connor Wickham went close with a 20-yarder in the second-half before being substituted. Then sub Gary Madine missed an excellent chance when he knocked the ball wide from six yards.

Jermaine Johnson, who came on for Wickham on 66 minutes, added much-needed pace and impetus while the home side could look back at a couple of chances for striker Nikola Zigic in the second period.

The point takes us up one point to 19th in the table.
