Wednesday left to pay penalty

Wednesday’s woes continued when two late goals sent us to defeat against fellow strugglers Bristol City.

Miguel Llera gave the Owls a great start with an early headed goal and both Gary Madine and Chris O’Grady might have added to the lead within the first 10 minutes.

However, the visitors were level on 18 minutes from the penalty spot, Sam Baldock scoring after Llera was adjudged to have brought him down.

Wednesday rarely threatened after the interval but looked to have grabbed three vital points 11 minutes from time when Madine fired home.

However, City were back on level terms six minutes later from another Baldock penalty, after a Madine handball in the box.

And Wednesday’s misery was complete soon afterwards when Albert Adomah curled home a 25-yard free kick to take all three points for City.

There was still time for Madine to crack what looked to be a Wednesday equaliser. However, referee Andre Marriner awarded a free kick to City, seemingly saying he had been manhandled by Llera moments earlier, with Wednesday players protesting after a penalty claim was turned down.
