Wednesday’s hopes of progressing in the FA Cup ended when a weakened and much-changed side went down to a 2-0 defeat at a freezing MK Dons.
We fell behind to a first-half Williams penalty after Lewis Buxton pulled back Bowditch and the home side made sure of their place in the next round with 13 minutes left when Bowditch’s free kick from wide on the left beat everyone and floated into the far corner.
MK Dons had posed few threats in the first half but we also lacked the finishing touch in front of goal despite looking more likely to break the deadlock.
The Dons were livelier after the break but the introduction of Michail Antonio gave hope of an Owls revival, only for Bowditch to then put paid to any chance of a fightback.
