Wednesday forced to replay after second-half shocker

Wednesday could have no complaints about having to replay against non-league Macclesfield after a 1-1 draw in our FA Cup third round tie at the Moss Rose.

We survived an early scare when Liam Palmer cleared off the line but gradually took control and Reda Johnson put us in front on 25 minutes with a thundering header.

The home keeper then pulled off an excellent save from Jose Semedo after a flowing Wednesday move and we were good value for the half-time lead.

However, the second half was a totally different story with the Conference side looking far the hungrier of the two sides and, after a close shave or two, it was no great surprise when Steve Williams brought the home team level on 72 minutes.

Unfortunately, the goal failed to shake Wednesday out of their second-half lethargy and it was the non-leaguers who took the plaudits as they deservedly earnt a replay at Hillsborough on January 14.
