Wednesday end season with another defeat

Wednesday’s disappointing end to the season continued with a 2-1 defeat at Ipswich … making it just one win in the final eight games of the campaign.

We had plenty of the game, with 23 goal attempts compared to seven from Ipswich, but lacked the finishing touch to turn possession into goals.

Slack marking from a free kick allowed Ipswich to take the lead 10 minues from the break through Tommy Smith but Wednesday grabbed a deserved equaliser 10 minutes into the second half with a first goal fron Kieran Lee, the midfielder driving the ball home from inside the box after Caolan Lavery’s miscue.

However, the home side restored their lead and secured all three points midway through the half when Paul Green headed home.

Stuart Gray said: “I am a little bit disappointed with how we have ended the season. With 23 goal attempts, we should be doing more.

“We probably deserved something from the game, whether a win or a draw.

“But credit to the players for how we have ended the season. We started with something like one win from 18 games. We have fizzled out a little at the end where we have probably been overstretched.”
