Wednesday drop two places after Leeds reverse

Wednesday slipped down two places – to 16th – after the lunchtime defeat at Leeds was followed by the usual rollercoaster of scores coming through from the other clubs involved in the Championship relegation scrap.

We now stand on 53 points, four points above the drop zone with four games remaining.

Bristol City, who went down 2-1 to Bolton at Ashton Gate, now look doomed but which two clubs go down with them remains on a knife-edge.

Barnsley’s remarkable 6-0 home defeat by Charlton sees them drop back into the bottom three on 49 points while Wolves are a further point behind Barnsley after their 3-1 Molineux reverse to fellow strugglers Huddersfield.

Home victories for Blackburn and Peterborough lift them onto 50 points and out of the relegation places – Blackburn with a game in hand on everyone apart from Millwall. Huddersfield are on 51 points after their win, with Millwall on 52 points from 40 games and Ipswich below us on goal difference after their 2-1 home defeat to Hull.

Immediately above us are Birmingham, Burnley, Derby and Blackpool – our opponents on Tuesday evening –  who are all on 54 points.

The agony and drama goes on …
