Wednesday battle back to grab another valuable point

It might have been a first defeat in 10 games … it could have been a famous fightback ending in victory … but in the end today’s 2-2 home draw with play-off chasing Derby was probably a fair result.

The visitors dominated in the first-half and took the lead on 23 minutes when they burst through from midfield and Jeff Hendrick slotted past Chris Kirkland.

Dave Jones then made an early tactical switch, replacing Kieran Lee with new loan striker Connor Wickham, but things got worse just after the break when Miguel Llera charged Jamie Ward in the back and the ex-Blade stepped up to put the Rams two-up from the penalty spot.

However, to their credit, the Owls bounced back within three minutes, Michail Antonio managing to turn Danny Pugh’s corner home at the far post amidst a clutch of players.

And six minutes later we were back on level terms, Miguel Llera heading home from Antonio’s excellent cross.

Hopes of three points were high at this stage but Derby held firm under more pressure and we survived one or two nervy moments to secure another valuable point and so repeat our two-goal fightback at Pride Park on the opening day of the season.
