We should have had penalty says Carvalhal

Carlos Carvalhal felt Wednesday were denied a late penalty as he reflected on the dramatic closing minutes at Shrewsbury which saw us crash out of the FA Cup.

Carvalhal, who does not normally comment on refereeing decisions, said it was a clear penalty when Atdhe Nuhiu went down under a challenge in the box in injury time but play was waved on and matters got worse soon afterwards as the home side broke away to seal a 3-2 victory in the 97th minute.

The head coach also admitted he was a little disappointed with some of our defending in the second half but added that it was not surprising as it was the first time the back four – Liam Palmer, Michael Turner, Vincent Sasso and Joe Bennett – had played together.

He said the positive aspect from today was to have injured players in Lewis McGugan, Marco Matias and Turner back from injury, along with Bennett making his debut, and said all are ready to play a part in our on-going challenge in the Championship, which has always been the priority.
