We should have finished game off – Carlos

Carlos Carvalhal felt Wednesday paid for not finishing off Barnsley after taking a second-half lead and pointed to another goal conceded from a set-piece.

Once Sam Winnall fired us ahead five minutes after the break, we had a period of domination but failed to turned the superiority into shots on target … the Owls registering just two from 14 attempts.

The head coach said after the 1-1 draw: “We achieved one goal and should have had more to finish the game. During that period we didn’t feel any real threats to our goal.

“If you don’t score the second goal all teams are very strong mentally and believe they can score in the last minutes, which is what happened today.

“We didn’t play fantastic football but we played with discipline.”

He was also upset that Wednesday conceded from another set-piece and added: “Barnsley didn’t cause us any problems until the final five minutes, so it’s disappointing that we didn’t win.”
