We need to keep our focus says Carlos

Next Saturday’s home clash with Cardiff takes on even greater significance after the Welsh side’s last-gasp penalty winner against Bolton yesterday.

With two matches remaining, we go into the game four points clear of Cardiff and knowing that a draw will be enough to confirm our play-off place.

However, if we were to lose then it will all go down to the final day of the season on the following weekend. We travel to Wolves and Cardiff entertain Birmingham and, before kick off at Molineux, we would go into that game needing three points to seal our play-off position.

Head coach Carlos Carvalhal, speaking after our hard-earned 1-1 draw at Derby on Saturday, said: “We are not in the play-offs yet and we need to keep focus on the next two matches before we think about the future.

“I know our fans will bring a very good atmosphere next week at Hillsborough.

“We will keep doing what we do and try to win all of the games until the end of the season.”

Barry Bannan fired us in front in spectacular fashion on 69 minutes but sub Darren Bent headed an equaliser for the Rams seven minutes from time.

Reflecting on the game, Carvalhal said: “Today the game was very balanced so I am happy but disappointed we did not get the win.

“We scored a good goal, it’s something that we know Bannan is capable of. For their goal, this is football. I don’t think we did anything wrong in the defence because it was a good cross.”
