‘We must play with heart at Brentford’

Carlos Carvalhal is looking for Wednesday to show their fighting spirit when they travel to Brentford on Saturday on the back of two Championship defeats.

Carvalhal felt the team lacked energy in the home reverse to Leeds last Saturday and, looking to the clash with the Bees, he said today: “We must play with heart. This is the brand of our club and I am sure on Saturday we will give the right answers.”

He added: “We’ve shown this season what we can do and how we can play. But we must react fast to accidents and put the team in a good way ”

The head coach, who said recent weeks had been the most challenging during his time at Hillsborough, said: “There are things to correct but we have not lost our identity and we carry on with the process.”

Even at this early stage of the season, Wednesday go into the game knowing that a third defeat in a row would be damaging in terms of points, confidence and team spirit.

Cavalhal said that Almen Abdi is back in training after suffering a shoulder injury against Leeds while Glenn Loovens is expected to continue his road to recovery with a runout for the under-21s against Birmingham at Hillsborough on Friday.

Still on the injury front, Modou Sougou has returned to training but Jose Semedo and Marco Matias are still ruled out.
