‘We didn’t start with enough energy’

Darren Moore reflected on Wednesday’s lacklustre first-half display and the disappointment of conceding an added time winner to Oxford at Hillsborough today.

The Owls boss said: “I didn’t think we started with enough energy and when we got to half time we jigged things around a bit.

“We made much more of a game of it in the second half. I was really pleased when we got the equaliser and from there I thought there was only one winner.”

He added: “I’m not using anything as an excuse because we lost a game we wanted to win. But the three-game week is something I’m going to have to analyse with my staff because I wasn’t happy with the way we started the game, whether we had tired minds or we were tired physically.

“We had a long trip to Ipswich, another away game at Wigan and we play again today. But it’s the same for everyone so it’s part of our programme but something we will analyse as a team.”

Commenting on conceding the crucial late goal, Moore said: “We worked hard to get ourselves back in the game and we had all the momentum.

“So to get hit on the break like that is a bitter pill. But we take it and move on and learn from what went wrong today.”
