‘We didn’t play well but we’ll take the points’

Carlos Carvalhal admitted Wednesday did not play well but was happy with another three points in the 2-1 win over Blackburn.

After watching the Owls come close to conceding an equaliser late on and fail to impress in front of a 24,000-plus crowd at S6, Carvalhal said: “It’s nice to have won because we didn’t perform well. The taste of this is very good when we are winning.”

The head coach said 2-1 is always a dangerous score when you don’t get a third goal and that it is instinct for the team in front to protect their lead, rather than push forward.

Referring to Blackburn, he said: “Teams like this are playing for their lives and they put a lot of energy into their game.”

He said he felt conceding an equaliser so soon after our opening goal made a big difference to the game but added that it was the type of match that we might well have only drawn last season.

He said it was excellent to have three wins, nine points and six goals under our belts in the last three games and added: “The most important thing tonight is that we achieved the three points.”
