‘We could have won game in opening spell’

Carlos Carvalhal felt Wednesday could have had the game wrapped up in the first 20 minutes against Forest.

The head coach, who watched from a seat in the South Stand as he was serving the first of a two-match touchline ban, said: “We had four or five chances early on, very good chances, and if we score those, the game is ours.

“We could not keep playing with that kind of intensity, no team can, but the start set the tempo for the game and we were in control.

“They scored from, I think, what was only one or two chances but I was confident we would go on and win the game.”

He added: “The team stayed compact, we managed the game well and waited for our moments in the game.

“We have another game on Tuesday, so after our third goal, we closed the windows and the doors and saw the game out.”
