‘We let in poor goals and lacked final edge’

Garry Monk reflected on poor defending at one end and a lack of cutting edge at the other after the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff.

Speaking after a second loss in three days, Monk said: “I thought we actually started the game well but then conceded two poor goals.

“We tried in the second half, we pushed but we lacked that final edge to get an equaliser.

“We didn’t help ourselves with the two goals that went against us. I then thought we were going to get that equaliser but it just didn’t quite fall for us.

“I thought we had all the ball in the second half, we were pushing and pushing but didn’t quite find that right quality in the final third. The effort was there but we couldn’t quite break them down.”

Monk added: “I’ve just said to the players though, you’ve earned the right to be where you are in the table and this is a tough, tough division.

“We have to focus on the positives, hard work has got us here and the hard work will carry us forward.”
