Wallace wonder strike fires up Owls

A cracking goal from Ross Wallace put Wednesday on the way to an important win over Huddersfield after another poor first-half display.

The visitors looked the better side in the opening half as we again struggled to find any tempo or cutting edge at Hillsborough.

However Wednesday, with Sam Winnall on for Steven Fletcher at half time, took the lead on 54 minutes in spectacular fashion, Wallace cracking a 25-yarder into the top corner of the net.

Worse followed for the visitors when Jack Payne was red carded 15 minutes later for a foul on Sam Hutchinson and, although the ten men continued to pose some threat, Wednesday looked far more positive after the opening goal and sealed the points in injury time, Fernando Forestieri turning the ball home from close range after good work from Callum McManaman.

Victory keeps Wednesday in sixth place on 45 points, now just one point behind Reading and Huddersfield in fourth and fifth respectively, with third-placed Leeds on 48 points.
