Two penalties … two red cards … Owls slump to third defeat …

Wednesday’s slump continued with a 3-1 defeat against Huddersfield in front of a 25,000 crowd at Hillsborough on Wednesday evening.

Two goals inside three first-half minutes from Oliver Norwood (15) and Lee Novak (18) – the first after Chris Kirkland had saved Norwood’s initial penalty kick following a foul by Jermaine Johnson – put the visitors in charge.

Reda Johnson then gave fresh hope by pulling a goal back with a header on 35 minutes and a minute later the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Joel Lynch was sent off for a foul on Michail Antonio.

However, numbers were evened up on half-time when Joe Mattock got his marching orders for a second bookable offence to bring an eventful first 45 minutes to a close.

Any hopes of a Wednesday fightback were virtually ended 20 minutes from time when Adam Clayton converted a second penalty following a harsh handball decision against Rhys McCabe. Then Reda Johnson missed a great chance to pull a goal back in the dying minutes and the Owls were on their way to a third successive defeat.
