Trio offered new contracts as Pulis looks to transfer window

Barry Bannan, Tom Lees and Adam Reach have all been offered new contracts at Hillsborough.

Tony Pulis revealed the news today as he also spoke of his plans to strengthen the squad in the upcoming January transfer window.

Talking of the experienced trio, Pulis said: “We have offered new contracts to Barry, Reachy and Lees. They are important players for this football club and it’s important the club can tie them down. They are terrific lads and I have been impressed with them.”

Looking at possible signings next month, the manager added: “We need to strengthen and I don’t think anyone would disagree with that. I’ve been here three weeks and I have a good feel for what is needed.”

Pulis said he was unsure if injured loan pair Aden Flint and Jack Marriott will return to Hillsborough, after returing to their parent clubs for treatment.

However, he is clear on what he believes is required to rejuvenate the squad as Wednesday face what now seems certain to be a fight against relegation in the coming months.

The manager said: “I am too long in the tooth now to pussyfoot around. There are players that we need and players we have to try and get and that’s my responsibility.

“It’s my job to convince the powers-that-be of the situation and what we need to give us as good a chance as we possibly can. I have that on my shoulders.

“I have a responsibility to the chairman, the staff, the players and the supporters of this football club. I will be saying and doing things that I think the football club needs and I won’t be doing it in any way other than to try to benefit the football club.”
