Three-goal defeat for much-changed Owls

Wednesday slumped to a second successive Championship defeat in a poor display at QPR on Tuesday evening.

Jos Luhukay made five changes from the team that lost at home to Middlesbrough on Friday night with skipper Tom Lees dropping to the bench, along with fellow defenders Jordan Thorniley and Liam Palmer, Steven Fletcher and Matt Penney.

Despite their improved recent form, QPR started hesitantly but we were unable to take advantage and created few openings before the home side took the lead on 35 minutes through Tomer Hemed.

We began the second half looking slightly sharper, Lucas Joao seeing his glancing header hit the woodwork on 53 minutes, only for Rangers to double their lead soon afterwards when Luke Freeman was left unmarked to head home

Wednesday had a penalty appeal for dangerous kicking turned down when Daniel Pudil took the full force of Angel Rangel’s high boot and had to leave the field with a head wound.

Adam Reach also sent a long-range effort just wide but overall we lacked the belief, confidence and intensity to stamp any sort of authority on the game and Rangers sealed the win seven minutes time when Nahki Wells fired home following an error by Michael Hector.

The second reverse in four days sees us down to 14th place on 19 points but still only two points off the final play-off position.

Dawson, Baker, Hector, Pudil (Thorniley 58) Fox, Bannan, Pelupessy (Penney 75) , Onomah, Reach, Nuhiu, Joao (Fletcher 75). Att: 12,534 (1700 Wednesdayites).
