Three-goal burst sinks troubled Wednesday

Three Norwich goals inside 11 second-half minutes saw Wednesday swept aside at Hillsborough as we slumped to a fourth successive Championship defeat.

The eventual 4-0 reverse also sees us down to 17th place and now just four points clear of the drop zone.

The fans made their feelings known during the second half, some calling for experienced pair Keiren Westwood and Sam Hutchinson – both seemingly frozen out of the manager’s future plans – and thousands were streaming out of the ground long before the final whistle.

We should have been in front within three minutes, Josh Onomah skying a great chance high over the bar from only 10 yards out.

Soon afterwards, Norwich were awarded a penalty when Tom Lees was harshly judged to have fouled Mario Vrancic but Cameron Dawson dived to save Vrancic’s poor spot kick.

Onomah, who had a nightmare first 45 minutes, missed another good chance after Tim Krul had pushed away an Adam Reach effort and Wednesday could look back on a reasonable first-half performance against top six opposition.

However, that all changed inside the space of those 11 minutes soon after the restart.

It began on  51 minutes when Vrancic’s low drive broke off Daniel Pudil and there was Teemu Pukki to slot home.

The Canaries were two-up five minutes later, Pudil’s miscued clearance giving Emi Buendia the chance to shoot past Dawson from 12 yards, and the visitors then powered forward down their right-hand side with Pukki finishing off the move of the game for 3-0 on 62 minutes.

It meant the result was all but settled with almost 30 minutes still remaining and Norwich completed a miserable afternoon for Wednesday 10 minutes from time when Dennis Srbeny fired home after a poor clearance from Dawson.
