Thompson: The players did everything we asked of them

Caretaker boss Neil Thompson praised the positivity of the Wednesday players after the 2-1 win over Boro at S6 tonight.

Thompson said afterwards: “We just wanted the lads to be positive and, everything we asked the boys to do, they did it. They all deserve a pat on the back for that. Our fighting spirit has never been in question.

“We’ve come away with a very good result tonight and a lot of hard work went into it. We caused them problems, put bodies on the line and they gave everything to get the win. We wanted to get positivity into the players.”

Boyhood Wednesday fan, Liam Shaw, tweeted after scoring his first goal for the club: ‘What a feeling scoring my first professional goal for the team I’ve supported all my life – but more importantly we got the three points.’

Josh Windass tweeted: ‘Love this team. Second half the back to back games showed! No legs left at all . So much spirit in the second half . A lot of quality in the first . Absolutely love it.’
