That’s the spirit says Luhukay

Jos Luhukay was pleased with the all-round team spirit as Wednesday chalked up our first league win of the season at the fourth attempt on Wednesday evening.

Luhukay dropped Fernando Forestieri, Sam Hutchinson and Atdhe Nuhiu to the bench after being highly critical of our display at Brentford on Sunday and, speaking after the 2-1 victory over Millwall, he said: “We are all very happy for our first win but not just that, it’s the way that we won … with everyone fighting for each other.

“The players worked unbelievably hard today and now we must do this again in three days when we come back here against Ipswich.”

He added: “I am so proud of my team. They gave everything, the experienced players helped the young players, the fans helped them all and together we won the game.

“From the back to the front we played very well and we deserved to win this game.

“There was passion all over the pitch and off the pitch as well. Our fans are fantastic, their passion and knowledge is the best.

Referring to his decision to drop some of our more experienced players and bring in youngsters, the manager said: “I am happy with my players but not one player will be selected unless this is on merit.

“We have a strong academy, there is a lot of talent coming through and we have seen that tonight.

“Of course, because of the demands of the season, everyone will get their chance and when it comes, it must be taken. Age is not a difference.”
