Ten-man Wednesday lose unbeaten record

Wednesday’s unbeaten start to the season ended in a two-goal defeat at Peterborough on Tuesday evening … the game arguably hinging on the sending off of Reece James on 34 minutes for a high challenge on Joe Ward.

We had more than held our own before the red card but the home side began to dominate after the break and two headed goals in the space of 10 minutes from Jonson Clarke-Harris (65) and then Jack Taylor – both from crosses from our left – saw Posh take the points.

Peterborough soon began to make the extra man count after James’ dismissal and twice went close before the interval, David Stockdale tipping over Taylor’s effort and ex-Owls loanee Jack Marriott testing Stockdale with a shot that was saved and then cleared.

And right on half time Liam Palmer cleared from almost on the line after Peterborough hit the post in a goalmouth scramble.

The closest we came to a goal was soon after half time when Will Vaulks saw his fierce 20-yarder come back off the chest of keeper Lucas Bergstrom.

However, Peterborough’s increased pressure finally paid off with those two goals inside ten second-half minutes, leaving Wednesday to reflect on what might have been but for the red card and on a first defeat of the season which sees us drop to eighth place, three points behind leaders Ipswich.
