Survival battle: Just 10 points separate eighth and 23rd!

Bristol City

And so the scrap for Championship survival goes on after another roller-coaster set of results … with Wednesday preparing for the trip to bottom club Bristol City on Easter Monday.

Of those in immediate distress, the first set of holiday weekend results saw wins for ourselves, Wolves, Peterborough and Ipswich  … while defeat for Bristol City means they are now four points adrift at the bottom and Barnsley are back in the relegation zone after their reverse at S6. Huddersfield are right back in the mire after losing at home to Hull and a Good Friday draw between Blackburn and Blackpool keeps them both in danger of the drop.

While we go to Bristol on Monday, Ipswich travel to Millwall, Barnsley entertain Leicester, Wolves make the short trip to much-improved Birmingham, Blackpool entertain Palace, Blackburn are at table-topping Cardiff and Peterborough away to fast-dropping Middlesbrough. Then, on the following day, Huddersfield are at Bolton.

Such is the tightness of the division that just 10 points separate Barnsley in 23rd from eighth-placed Bolton and there appears to be only one certainty … and that’s that the uncertainty of this extraordinary Championship relegation battle is likely to continue right up to the final whistles on May 4.
