Carlos pleased … but room for improvement

Carlos Carvalhal was pleased with Wednesday’s 3-0 win over Birmingham on Friday night but said he is looking for a better display against Blackburn next Tuesday.

He said: “We started very well in the first 20 to 25 minutes. We scored a goal and could have had more but then we relaxed a little, when we do this we are not focussed … and credit to Birmingham, they began to balance the game.”

Carvalhal felt we defended well when Birmingham pressed us back in the second half with the score at 1-0 and then waited for our moment before scoring a second goal.

He added: “We are in a good place. We have a good win, we are sixth in the table, we have another clean sheet – our 13th of the season – and we scored three goals.

“We are higher in the table with more points, so I am happy. We started and finished this game very well.”

Looking ahead to the home game with Blackburn, he said: “There are things we will correct and we will try to do better against Blackburn because we can do better than we did tonight.”

And referring to the new Jordan Rhodes-Sam Winnall strike partnership, he said: “We believe with more time, work and understanding they will do even better and score more goals.”
