Unbeaten run continues as Madine sinks Fulham in the cup

Wednesday made it 19 games unbeaten when a second-half Gary Madine penalty gave us a deserved Capital One Cup win over Premier League Fulham on Tuesday evening.

Madine struck from the spot five minutes after the break when Chris Maguire was blocked in the box. It was no more than Wednesday deserved as they dominated the first half, with Michail Antonio causing the Fulham defence plenty of problems.

Miguel Llera went close early in the second 45, before Madine’s penalty, and Fulham had a Brede Hangeland equaliser disallowed on 63 minutes. However, that aside, Wednesday were rarely threatened as we stretched our unbeaten run to 19 matches – 17 of them under Dave Jones – in front of a healthy 14,000-plus Hillsborough crowd.

Dave Jones said it was always good to beat a Premier League side in the cup and felt Wednesday were worthy winners.
