Slump continues as Owls lose again

Wednesday’s miserable recent run continued with a third successive defeat at Birmingham on Saturday.

We went down 3-1 to two late efforts after taking the lead at St Andrews and that means eight goals conceded in those last three games as we still seek a clean sheet this season.

The defeat sees us drop to 15th place, now six points off the play-offs but only seven from the bottom three, and will start to build pressure on Jos Luhukay ahead of next Saturday’s visit of promotion-chasing Norwich.

We started confidently against Birmingham, taking the lead when Steven Fletcher fired home expertly from close range on 19 minutes.

However, the game-changing moment then came when Liam Palmer, who had already shot just wide, blazed over from six yards when it should have been 2-0.

The home side made us pay for that howler just before the break, Connor Mahoney delivering a cracking angled drive across Cameron Dawson and into the far corner of the net.

We withstood early second-half pressure from Birmingham and again had more than our fair share of the game but lacked a cutting edge in the penalty area … with the standout attacker Steven Fletcher surprisingly taken off 12 minutes from time.

Two minutes later the home side were in front, Lukas Jutkiewicz getting the better of Tom Lees to head home, and there was no coming back four minutes later when Che Adams slotted past Dawson after Adam Reach slipped and lost possession in the box.
