A goal in each half from Jay Rodriguez ended Wednesday’s Capital One Cup run at Southampton on Tuesday evening.
He put the Saints in front on the half-hour mark and added the second 12 minutes from time when Joe Mattock was penalised for a foul, Rodriguez netting from the spot despite a brave effort to save from Stephen Bywater.
Michail Antonio and Nejc Pecnik went closest for Wednesday in either half but they were also indebted to Bywater for several excellent saves as we slipped to a fifth consecutive defeat.
