Reda Johnson misses the New Year’s Day home game with Burnley.
Johnson, who has only recently returned from a lengthy lay-off through injury, picked up his fifth booking of the season at Huddersfield on Saturday and receives an automatic one-match ban.
Dave Jones could bring in Joe Mattock as a straight replacement or move Jeremy Helan back to left back and shuffle the midfield pack.
Wednesday are to appeal against the booking of Michail Antonio at Huddersfield on grounds of mistaken identity. Referee Mick Russell wrongly put Antonio’s name into his notebook, after Helan was adjudged to have dived – and when the latter was later booked again, he escaped the red card.
However, while Antonio may get off the caution, Helan could still face an automatic one-match ban if the FA deem it was mistaken identity, meaning he should have been sent off.
