Reach ‘worldie’ earns an unlikely point

Wednesday survived a second-half battering from league leaders Leeds to somehow take a point in a 1-1 draw at Hillsborough on Friday night.

A brilliant Adam Reach long-range volley into the top corner of the net gave us an unlikely lead just before half-time, after Leeds had missed a handful of good chances at the other end.

However, the Leeds pressure finally brought them a goal soon after the break, Mateusz Klich curling home from 20 yards, and that signalled almost total dominance from the visitors for the rest of the game.

Wednesday just could not get into the match in the second period, failing to keep possession in the face of Leeds’ pressing game and rarely troubling their defence.

The visitors continued to launch attack after attack but with Tom Lees producing as good a defensive performance as we have seen from him this season – and against his former club – we held out for a point.
