Reach hits cracker as Owls win again

A cracking 20-yarder from Adam Reach gave Wednesday a 1-0 win over Portimonense on Wednesday evening.

Reach’s first-time effort from the edge of the box flew into the top corner to ensure Wednesday kept up our 100 per cent winning record from three pre-season games.

Keiren Westwood made his first appearance in the friendlies, playing the full 90 minutes, while Sam Hutchinson and Almen Abdi got their first taste of the warm-up action, both coming on for the final 24 minutes.

Carlos Carvalhal, who was pleased with a clean sheet and that Wednesday did not allow Portimonense many opportunities, added: “In the first half in particular we had a good dynamic and scored a fantastic goal.

“We closed the spaces well, which is very positive because Portimonense played on the counter attack like some teams play in the Championship, so overall it was a positive experience.”

Next up, we entertain SC Farense on Thursday evening and kick off is now 7pm, rather than the original 8pm timing.

Westwood, Hunt, Lees, Pudil, Fox, Boyd (Wallace 66), Bannan (Abdi 66), Jones (Hutchinson 66), Reach (Hooper 46), Winnall (Forestieri 46), Rhodes (Nuhiu 75).
