Palmer gets starting place but Scotland beaten

Liam Palmer played the full 90 minutes for Scotland this afternoon in their 1-0 Nations League defear in Slovakia.

Manager Steve Clarke made eight changes, including Palmer’s call-up, from the side that clinched their place in next summer’s finals of Euro 2020, after they won a penalty shootout in Serbia on Thursday night.

It was the Scots first defeat in 10 games but they remain top of their group table prior to the Czech Republic’s game with Israel this evening.

Wednesday clubmate Callum Paterson was an unused sub in Slovakia and Scotland complete their three-game schedule with a Nations League game in Israel on Wednesday, knowing that victory would ensure them promotion from their current Group B2.

Closer to home, new Wednesday boss Tony Pulis will be happy to see the duo returning to training at Middlewood Road towards the end of the week as he prepares for his first game in charge at Preston on Saturday.
