Owls wait on JJ injury … Megson bemoans ‘soft’ penalty …

Wednesday are waiting for an injury update on Jermaine Johnson after the in-form winger limped off 25 minutes into the defeat at Chesterfield on Saturday.

There are fears that Johnson suffered medial knee ligament damage but Gary Megson says that is not confirmed.

Reflecting on the Owls’third successive league defeat, Megson said: “I thought we made a really positive start to the game but we didn’t score. We always stress the importance of scoring the first goal and Chesterfield scored it.”

Referring to the Chesterfield goal, a penalty on 78 minutes after a foul by John Bostock, Megson said: “The penalty was soft, not in the way it was given, but in the way we defended it. The tackle shouldn’t have been made and it has cost us the game.”

Megson added: “In the second half we didn’t penetrate them as much as we had been doing and I think Jermaine Johnson going off had a lot to do with that because he certainly gives you that as an individual.”

The latest defeat leaves us in third place, five points behind second-placed Sheff U who have two games in hand and with the S6 derby next Sunday. Hudersfield are two points behind us in fourth but have also played two games less.
