Steven Fletcher could miss Saturday’s trip to Reading in the latest blow to Wednesday’s striking options.
Carlos Carvalhal explained today that Fletcher has been carrying an injury in recent games and has had treatment this week. He will return to training tomorrow, with a late decision on whether he is fit to resume at Reading.
With Fernando Forestieri suspended and Gary Hooper already ruled out through injury, if Fletcher fails his fitness test then Carvalhal could recall Atdhe Nuhiu to partner Lucas Joao up front – Nuhiu having scored a hat-trick in a closed doors friendly with Notts County earlier this week.
George Hirst could also be added to the travelling squad while Carvalhal may consider switching to a 4-3-3 formation.
Wednesday also wait on fitness checks on Will Buckley, Glenn Loovens, Kieran Lee, Ross Wallace and Joao ahead of facing a Reading side who currently sit in third place, three points ahead of ourselves in sixth.
