Owls go through to face Wolves

Wednesday will entertain Wolves in the Carabao Cup second round later this month after a 2-0 win at Sunderland on Thursday night.

Marco Matias took advantage of poor Sunderland defending to slot us ahead on 29 minutes – and this after the home side had looked the more impressive outfit in the early stages.

We became more dominant after the opening goal and Adam Reach clinched our second round place 11 minutes from time with a deft near post header from an inviting cross by man-of-the-match Barry Bannan.

The starting line-up included youngsters Alex Hunt and Freddie Nielsen and fellow academy players Jack Lee, Connor Kirby and Matt Penney all got game time during the second half.

The Wolves tie will be played during the week commencing August 27.
