Owls survive late scare to take three points

Wednesday kept up the unbeaten start to the season but were made to cling on for three points in a 3-2 win at Middlesbrough today.

We looked to have the game wrapped up when two headers from Atdhe Nuhiu and a first goal for the club from Stevie May put us three-up after 57 minutes.

However, with the minutes ticking away and Wednesday seemingly in control, referee Phil Dowd awarded Boro a penalty on 72 minutes when Glenn Loovens fouled Kike and Grant Leadbitter scored from the spot. Then, with added time approaching, Loovens was penalised for handball in the box and Leadbitter fired home his second penalty.

And, buoyed by the two penalties, Boro almost clinched an unlikely equaliser when Leadbitter just failed to connect with a cross in the dying seconds.

However, that would have been tough on a Wednesday side who turned in another excellent away performance and the three points move us up to sixth place in the early Championship table.
