Owls sunk inside first 15 minutes

Wednesday lost our game at QPR in the first 15 minutes on Tuesday evening, conceding three goals in a dreadful opening spell before eventually going down 4-2.

We looked anything but a side that had won its last two Championship away games with Rangers romping into that three-goal lead, Paul Smyth (8 mins), Jake Bidwell (10) and Idrissa Sylla (15) taking advantage of some woeful defending and goalkeeping to virtually kill off the game before it had hardly started.

The home side then went further ahead just after half-time when Sylla converted a penalty after a foul by Tom Lees.

Wednesday rallied with an excellent strike from the returning Fernando Forestieri on 61 minutes and a smart header from Atdhe Nuhiu eight minutes later to give some respectability to the scoreline.

However, it was all too little too late on a night to forget for the 1500-plus travelling support.

We slip one place to 17th but, with the seven clubs now below us all also losing on the night, neither bottom club Burton or 23rd placed Sunderland can overtake us.

In addition, we remain 10 points clear of third-from-bottom Barnsley who have five games left to play.
