Owls round off Portugal trip with victory

Goals from Lucas Joao and Sam Winnall gave Wednesday a 2-0 win in their practice match with Shrewsbury in the Algarve on Tuesday evening.

Joao fired us ahead on 38 minutes and Winnall doubled the lead midway through the second period in a match dominated by the Owls.

Steve Bruce gave a runout to the full squad, apart from Atdhe Nuhiu and Josh McEachran, the latter having been training with us as a free agent.

That meant the large travelling contingent of Wednesday fans saw a trio of new faces – Julian Bonner, Moses Odubajo and Kadeem Harris – in action, although the club has yet to confirm that they have completed moves to Hillsborough.

First half: Westwood (Wildsmith 30); Odubajo, Lees, Borner, Fox; Reach, Bannan, Hutchinson, Joao, Forestieri, Fletcher.
Second half: Wildsmith (Dawson 60); Baker, Iorfa, van Aken, Palmer; Harris, Lee, Pelupessy, Penney; Winnall, Rhodes.

Closer to home, the under-23s drew 2-2 at Worksop Town on Tuesday evening. We trailed 1-0 before second-half goals from Ben Hughes and Alex Hunt put us ahead, only for the hosts to grab a late equaliser.
